INSPIRATION

Texture, form, elegance and beauty; it has taken nearly a lifetime for me to recognize just how important these elements are to my very being. The feel of the shaggy bark on the tree in the yard, the silky smoothness of worn cotton sheets and my cat’s luxurious fur compel me to touch and sense all that they are. The Shaker attributes of form and elegance are the perfection of simple form to function.

After many years of faithfully weaving lovely Shaker baskets I am inspired to explore my inner self to design and execute graceful, elegant vessels with a strong visual statement. My Shaker basketry roots are evident in these baskets; indeed, those superb roots may always show.

I derive a sense of peace and wellbeing from my basketmaking; The rhythm of the process, the creativity and logistics of the new model, the deep feeling of surrounding comfort that comes from practicing an ancient art. It is my hope that the baskets I bring forward will remain long after I’m gone, imparting my sense of wonder and awe to those who hold them.
