A relative newcomer to the small group of expert basketmakers existing how in New Hampshire, Sharon had worked in advertising and graphic arts until she discovered the beauty of Shaker basketry. Some years back her mother, who is a talented weaver of A0palachian types of baskets, encouraged Sharon to try her hand at the craft. She made her first splint basket about 15 years ago but it wasn’t until she visited an exhibit at Plymouth State College’s Silver Hall that she was a basket that inspired what she calls her passion for ash splint and Shaker design.

It was a Shaker basket made by the renowned Martha Wetherbee that seemed to call out that day to Sharon. Deciding that the texture, form and the very wood in that basket were what she wanted to work with, she was determined to make her baskets exactly the same way that the early Shakers did.
